Applications
Submarine communication cable is mainly used for long distance communication network, usually used for long distance between the islands, cross sea military facilities and other important occasions. The submarine power cable laying distance is much shorter than submarine communication cable, mainly intended for power supply between land and islands or islands cross rivers,harbor, or the drilling platform or connection between drilling platforms etc.. In general, the power transmission of submarine cable is undoubtedly more expensive than overhead cable with the same length, but it is more economic compare to using a small isolated power station to supply a regional’s power,especially more benefits in the offshore area application.The cable is widely used in Countries where has many islands and rivers.
Construction
Test method
The main index of testing are electrical performance and physical performance index. These requirements and test methods are the same of underground power cable.
Electric performance: DC resistance and AC impedance of conductors; insulating resistance layer; dielectric loss; carrying capacity; capacitance, inductance of the cable; induction voltage and current in the metal shield.
The mechanical and physical performance indicators: mechanical strength of the cable conductor; tensile strength, elongation; insulation material mechanical physical properties.
Test method: China mainly by the International Electrotechnical Commission recommended standard, IEC60502, IEC540 and IEC60141-1 ~ IEC60141-4, the production of cable around the world manufacturers have their own standards, mainly Japan JIS, British BS, Canada CSA.
